Belgium Queen Undergoes Surgery with Hypno-sedation

Queen Fabiola (aged 80) of Belgium recently underwent thyroid surgery at Liège's University hospital using hypnosis instead of general anaesthesia.

To date, more than 4,000 operations have been carried out at this Belgium hospital which is probably the reason that she chose to undergo surgery there.

This method of sedation is the hospital's preferred choice for elderly patients as it reduces the chances of dangerous side effects.

Fabiola was herself a hospital nurse when she met the king in the late 1950's and was Belgium's queen consort between 1960 and 1993.
